I love visiting Old Sacramento, so any chance I have to go there I make sure to take it. On my last trip there I was shooting for a weekly photo challenge I am a part of called Equiposed Life. This particular assignment was to take photos of things that had been renewed, easy enough, especially in the spring with flowers blooming and baby animals everywhere. But I wanted to dig a little deeper and find things that were not as obvious cue this awesome old building along the river walk. We had just taken a stroll along the pier by the Delta King and as we walked back up from the doc this house greeted us. Ominous in many ways with its shuttered windows and boarded-up doors, but still stately. As I stood there snapping photos from various angles I couldn’t help but imagine all of the things that could possibly go into such a cool old building. A theater, a coffee shop, a makers space filled with handmade treasures, a museum, or an art gallery. So many possibilities.

As we walked away and still to this day I still think of what will become of that old building. Will they allow it to remain to remain standing and do something cool with it or will it be torn down as part of the current beautification projects planned? All I know is that I am glad I took a few quick moments to marvel at the beauty that once was, and consider the possibility of what could be. That is what it means to be renewed after all.

  • When in Old Sacramento it is fun to trip around and take in the sights, eclectic stores, restaurants, and museums
  • We like to stop at the Back Door Lounge for a quick cocktail before continuing our adventures. Its a throwback to eras past and makes you feel like you have been transported to another time.
